About Baezco Learning
Strategy with a Human Touch
High-impact HR leadership for businesses that value their mission and their people. Founded by 24-year HR veteran and USMC Marine Ricky Baez Jr.
Efrain "Ricky" Baez Jr., MHR, SPHR
Owner & Chief HR Consultant
I believe Human Resources should be the heartbeat of your business, not a back-office burden. For over 24 years, I've cut through corporate jargon to deliver common-sense HR solutions that align team potential with business results.
My approach is forged from a unique combination of military discipline, academic rigor, and hands-on frontline experience. I don't just practice HR. I teach it. I speak about it. I live it every day.
Through Baezco Learning, I serve as the fractional HR partner for small and mid-sized businesses across the United States, helping them build workplaces where people thrive and businesses win.
My Story
From the Marine Corps to the HR consulting room.
It Started with the Marines
From 1995 to 1999, I served in the United States Marine Corps. Four years that taught me everything I needed to know about leadership, discipline, and taking care of the people next to you. When I got out, I used my G.I. Bill to go to college β and that's where HR found me.
Falling in Love with HR
My first HR job was at Hewitt Associates as a Benefits Specialist. It sounds technical, but the work was simple and powerful: help people understand the part of their compensation package most of them ignored. I watched employees walk out of conversations with a clearer grasp of their benefits, their options, and their future. That was the moment I knew. HR wasn't paperwork. It was people.
Climbing the HR Ladder
From there, I moved to Orange County Government, where I grew through three roles: Benefits Specialist, Training and Employee Relations Analyst, and a frontline position negotiating with five different unions. That's where I learned that HR is never about the policy β it's about the conversation.
Next came Orange County Public Schools as a Senior Employee Relations Manager, then Darden Restaurants as an Employee Relations Manager, then HR Manager roles at Sears Home Improvements, then Director of People and Culture at 4 Corner Resources. Every role deepened my conviction: when HR is done right, businesses win, employees thrive, and leaders sleep better at night.
Starting Baezco Learning
In 2014, I started Baezco Learning part-time. I kept seeing small and mid-sized businesses drowning in HR complexity they didn't create, couldn't afford to solve, and shouldn't have to navigate alone. The Fortune 500 had entire HR departments. Main Street had nobody. I wanted to change that.
In 2021, I took Baezco Learning full-time. Today, my team and I help small to mid-sized businesses across the country navigate the confusing waters of Human Resources in a vibrant, down-to-earth learning environment. No jargon. No corporate theater. Just practical guidance that works on Monday morning.
Giving Back Through Teaching
Alongside Baezco Learning, I teach in the Master of Human Resources program at Rollins College β the same program where I earned my own MHR. Teaching keeps me sharp, keeps me current, and keeps me connected to the next generation of HR leaders.
I also host The H in HR Podcast, where I have real conversations with business leaders, HR practitioners, and thought leaders about what it really takes to put the human back in human resources.
What Drives Me Today
After 30 years of service β four in uniform and 26 in HR β one thing has stayed true: people are the mission. When your people thrive, your business wins. That's the work I show up for every day.
Credentials & Experience
A foundation built on service, education, and two decades of practice.
Marine Corps Veteran
Four years of service in the United States Marine Corps instilled a mission-first mentality, unwavering integrity, and the discipline to execute under pressure. Every client engagement carries that same standard.
Academic Leader
Master of Human Resources (MHR) from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, and current faculty member in the Master of HR program. SPHR certified (Senior Professional in Human Resources).
24+ Years Experience
Over two decades of strategic HR leadership across startups, mid-market companies, and global enterprises. Expertise spans compliance, recruitment, leadership development, and organizational change.
My HR Philosophy
Four core beliefs that drive every client engagement.
HR is a Growth Engine, Not a Cost Center
When HR is done right, it drives revenue, reduces risk, and builds the kind of culture that attracts top talent. The days of treating HR as paperwork and policy enforcement are over.
People Are the Mission
Every HR decision should start with a simple question: does this help our people do their best work? Compliance matters, but it's not the goal. The goal is a workplace where people thrive and businesses win.
Common Sense Beats Corporate Jargon
If a policy, process, or training can't be explained in plain English, it won't work. I translate complex HR and legal requirements into practical, down-to-earth guidance that leaders and frontline employees can actually use.
Small Businesses Deserve Executive-Level HR
Every small and mid-sized business faces the same HR challenges as the Fortune 500. They just don't have the budget for a full-time HR team. Fractional HR levels the playing field and gives growing businesses the expertise they need.
Industries I've Served

Meet Copper
HR Generalist β’ Chief Morale Officer
No HR team is complete without a little heart (and a lot of fur). After a stellar internship, Copper earned his promotion to HR Generalist. He specializes in conflict resolution, mostly over who gets the last treat, and employee wellness through his famous mandatory nap reminders.
His primary role is keeping the Baezco Learning team grounded and smiling. He reminds us daily that at the end of the day, HR is always about people. And sometimes about belly rubs.
A Little More About Me
Because HR is about people, and so am I.
When I'm Not Consulting
Outside of Baezco Learning, you'll find me at Rollins College teaching the next generation of HR leaders, recording new episodes of The H in HR Podcast, or emceeing HR conferences across the country. I'm always up for a good conversation about the future of work, the changing workforce, and what it really takes to build a culture people want to be part of.
Somewhere down the road, my plan is to retire to Puerto Rico and open a barbershop. Because after 24 years of helping people navigate workplaces, I figure helping them navigate a fresh haircut is a pretty good second act.
Until then, I'm here to help your business put the H back in HR.
